Dear Friends, I’m delighted to inform you of the Archdiocese of Brisbane’s intention to be a host for Days in the Diocese in the lead-up to World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia. Brisbane is a rapidly growing city on the East Coast of Australia 1000 kilometres north of Sydney. As Archbishop of Brisbane it gives me great pleasure to invite young people from around the world to visit our city situated in a beautiful area of Australia. Here they will be able to experience something of the Catholic Church in Australia. We eagerly await the gifts of hospitality, faith and friendship that will be exchanged through this encounter, and the tremendous impact it will have on the life of our Archdiocese and in return on other archdioceses and dioceses throughout the world. As a pilgrim myself over the past three World Youth Days, I have experienced the Days as an incredible gift to the Church and the world. They have the potential to transform the lives not only of the young people who participate, but of people at all levels of Church life who are touched by them. As members of the Catholic Church in Australia we are blessed to have this opportunity to host world pilgrims as part of Days in the Diocese. I hope you will consider our invitation to be guests of the Archdiocese of Brisbane from 10th to 14th July 2008. You will be most welcome. Sincerely in Christ, Archbishop John A Bathersby DD ARCHBISHOP OF BRISBANE
