Archdiocesan Secretariat Logo

The Brisbane WYD Secretariat has developed a logo to distinguish its activities and program from the WYD Sydney event.

The logo should become a familiar sight across the archdiocese at WYD connected events.

Local church communities are encouraged to use the archdiocesan logo and its various elements to promote their local WYD events and activities. See our resources page to download our logos.

Here is an explanation of the four elements that make up the logo:

Journey of the Cross and Icon

Journey of the WYD Cross and IconThe image of the cross is a central image in the logo. The Journey of the WYD Cross and Icon is the first major step on this pilgrimage of faith.

The cross is not just an image of the past but is also reflective of the struggles in our lives today and the hope that Christ brings to us.

Days in the Diocese

Brisbane Days in the DioceseThe winding river is representative of the Brisbane River flowing through the city but it also symbolises the gifts and blessings that will flow through hosting overseas guests as part of the Days in the Diocese program.

This image is also representative of the Holy Spirit permeating the whole World Youth Day project.

Towards and beyond WYD08

Beyond WYD 2008The spiral image is a symbolic representation of the Jesus Communion Mission framework (read more here) which is at the core of Brisbane archdiocese’s vision for today and into the future.

Participation in all of the elements of World Youth Day should reflect the broader long-term vision for the archdiocesan community.

Pilgrimage to WYD08 in Sydney

Pilgrimage to WYD in SydneyThe staff is an ancient symbol of pilgrimage. Pilgrimage is a central theme which will run through all preparations for World Youth Day.

This section of the logo picks up on that image, drawing its inspiration from the pilgrimage staffs that were used in the Year of Great Jubilee.
