Journey of the Cross and Icon
The image of the cross is a central image in the logo. The Journey of the WYD Cross and Icon is the first major step on this pilgrimage of faith.
The cross is not just an image of the past but is also reflective of the struggles in our lives today and the hope that Christ brings to us.

Days in the Diocese
The winding river is representative of the Brisbane River flowing through the city but it also symbolises the gifts and blessings that will flow through hosting overseas guests as part of the Days in the Diocese program.
This image is also representative of the Holy Spirit permeating the whole World Youth Day project.

Towards and beyond WYD08
The spiral image is a symbolic representation of the Jesus Communion Mission framework (read more here) which is at the core of Brisbane archdiocese’s vision for today and into the future.
Participation in all of the elements of World Youth Day should reflect the broader long-term vision for the archdiocesan community.

Pilgrimage to WYD08 in Sydney
The staff is an ancient symbol of pilgrimage. Pilgrimage is a central theme which will run through all preparations for World Youth Day.
This section of the logo picks up on that image, drawing its inspiration from the pilgrimage staffs that were used in the Year of Great Jubilee.
