World Youth Day is not a single day but a week long festival comprising a number of large scale events. WYD brings together hundreds of thousands of young people from all around the world who have accepted the invitation from the Holy Father to gather and celebrate their faith together. Around 200,000 young people are expected to register for the week’s festivities in Sydney in July this year, which will include catechesis sessions, festivals, concerts and liturgies. Over 4,000 people from the Archdiocese of Brisbane will travel to WYD08 which will include pilgrimage groups from schools, parishes, deaneries, and youth movements. There are many factors to consider and levels of preparation and organisation required in taking a group of young people to WYD. If you have questions relating to the week in Sydney to do with registration, accommodation, transport, meals etc than please contact the official WYD Office in Sydney via their website www.wyd2008.org With regards to local issues such as transportation to and from Sydney, pre and post WYD events and preparation materials, please feel free to contact us at the Brisbane WYD Secretariat. Regular updates will be posted on this site, so stay tuned for more details.
