Journey of the WYD Cross & Icon
Overview

The goal of the Journey of the WYD Cross & Icon (JCI) is to proclaim the Good News of God’s love in Christ to the young people of Australia and to prepare them for World Youth Day in Sydney 2008. The journey of the WYD Cross & Icon is, in addition to the Days in the Diocese programs, the major way in which young Australians can connect with WYD.

As the WYD Cross & Icon have journeyed through countries around the world, there has been intense and creative activity to make maximum use of their visits. This has included a wide variety of religious, cultural and civic events.

The Archdiocese of Brisbane pilgrimage of the WYD Cross & Icon took place from Friday, 17 August to Wednesday, 29 August, 2007 with an estimated 26,000 people attending 48 events. The Cross & Icon returned to the Gold Coast in November 2007 for 3 days of events centred around Schoolies.
